Mahindra Thar is a rugged off-road SUV produced by Mahindra & Mahindra, an Indian automotive company. It was first introduced in 2010 as a modern successor to the Mahindra MM540, which itself was inspired by the classic Willys Jeep used during World War II.

The first-generation Thar (2010–2020) featured a simple, utilitarian design aimed at off-road enthusiasts and rural users. It became popular for its durability and classic Jeep-like appearance.

In 2020, Mahindra launched the second-generation Thar, with significant upgrades in design, technology, comfort, and safety. It offered both petrol and diesel engines, automatic and manual transmissions, and modern features like a touchscreen infotainment system, airbags, and a hardtop option—making it appealing to urban and lifestyle buyers as well.

Today, the Mahindra Thar is known for blending off-road capability with modern convenience, becoming an iconic vehicle in India’s SUV segment.
